Deck Specifics

There are general three sets of lengths for cruising and carving longboards and which one is best for you might depend largely on your actual size. Here’s a brief overview:

Shorter deck – 28-32inches – great for young riders or smaller stature riders, though if you are taller you can still use them but you will need experience

Mid-sized deck – 32-43inches – majority of boards fall into this category and majority of people will be suitable to use them

Longer deck – 43+inches – great for a long, comfortable ride or the taller rider, the only downside is they can be a bit weighty when you are carrying them

The last tricky thing to remember for your board is the rollers. For example, a deck of over 40 inches is recommended to have rollers around 70-75mm a general rule is that to have easier acceleration of the board, go for the smaller size while if speed is your aim, head for the larger size.

Medium decks typically work best with rollers around 68-72mm while short decks under 34inches usually have wheels which are 60-67mm.

Durometer is the other factor you will hear mentioned with rollers; the weight of the rider plays into this one.

So riders weighing 135lbs and below should aim for rollers which state are 78-80A range while riders between 135-175 lbs should get rollers in the 80-83A range. Finally over 175lbs are the range of 83-86A wheels to get the right cruising board.
